phpAuction… From inspiration to steady growth.
We don´t just develop software… our client base grows through service and trust!
It was 1997 and the main reference for online auctions was… you guessed it: eBay. As a personal project, Gianluca Baldo started phpAuction to test the potential of the newborn PHP scripting language. phpAuction version 1.0 was written in PHP/FI language (also called PHP2) and was using miniSQL as database back end.
In October 1999 the script was migrated to PHP3 and the database engine was changed to MySQL. New features were added to upgrade this version and phpAuction was finally released as free software under the terms of the General Public License (GPL). However, the project was still at a personal initiative level.
November 2000 saw the decision to leave a basic package available under GPL and the critical decision was made to further develop a new and improved commercial package for phpAuction.
At the end of the 2007 Federico Montes joined the project as CTO, responsible for I+D for the continuous development of the technological platform.
Lorena Martínez joined the phpAuction team, offering her expertise in web design and development. Lorena’s position covered new and important areas for the company like design, sales & marketing and CRM. Henceforth, new value-added services were added to phpAuction such as hosting, design, and customer management, in order to provide excellent service and turnkey solutions for our clients.
The development of software solutions and suites has been consistently steady to the point where we now offer 6 different packages including classifieds, trading and specific sets. Today, phpAuction is the leading auction package for small/medium auction websites.
Many talented people have been kind enough to helped us during all these years and we would to thank every single one of them for their contributions and the part they have each played in our success. phpAuction team not only includes the people mentioned before, but also our support and development team.

Developments
We’ve seen some great new developments in phpAuction this year and with more to come!
We’re are now offering programming, design and technical support service teams from Spain and from Mexico in our efforts to expand into the great international Spanish-speaking market. Our international team interaction is consolidated and aims to contribute substantially to our company development and expansion.
Also, our timetables for customer service support are scheduled to widen and provide the quality service in synch with the success of our line of software products.
Plans for the near future include continuing our development our top XL Premim product. Eventually, we will also start to develop products related to online communities that go far beyond the concept of mere auctions.
Beyond this, at phpAuction we’re excited and proud to be satisfying the business needs of our 3.000 customers… and growing!
